God has endowed women with many gifts and should know how to use them. Gifts such as beauty, power, homemaker, supporter etc. God is faithful, he never withdraws his gifts from his children without reason.
Women have been through many upheavals on earth since creation, their voice was suppressed at home and in society in the past, despite looking after the home, children, husbands and playing a full role in society. This trend continues into modern times where women have to fight to get the same salary as men, work in top positions in companies and fight sexual harassment.
Despite all these upheavals, God has given women a special gift; which is the power to influence. This gift can be used positively and negatively but we need to know how to use it effectively as Christians.
Knowing how to use the power to influence positively –
Women are influential. We have recordings in the Bible about how powerful some women were; they were granted whatever they wished or asked for. For example, the woman of Abel Beth Maakah (2 Samuel 20), Joab obliged not to destroy Abel Beth Maakah at the woman’s request and the woman of Tekoa (2 Samuel 14) was sent by Joab to convince David to bring Absalom back to Jerusalem after he failed in dethroning his father .
Women who used the power to influence negatively in the Bible –
- Jezebel the wife of Ahab the King of Israel was an influential woman but she manipulated Ahab in getting whatever she wanted. It states in the Bible that she killed the prophets of God (1Kings 18) and killed Naboth to gain possession of the garden Ahab coveted.(1Kings 21)
- Delilah manipulated Samson with tears and nagging until he revealed the secret behind his power. (Judges 16)
Another gift God has given women is the gift to create homes. They give birth to children, nurture them, make their homesteads comfortable, provide stability and support their husbands. Women should therefore value and appreciate what the Lord has given them. Such contentment will make them want nothing else. God loves us, fights for us when we feel sidelined or cheated. Just like the case of the daughters of Zelophehad (Numbers 27:7) in the Bible.
The values women should embrace to enjoy what God has given them include:
- Accept the blessings the Lord has given you, this could be children, lovely home, husband, career etc. and be content.
- Love yourself and do not put yourself down.
- Building your home is in your hands as a woman. The secret is making sure you choose the right person to build your home with.
- Love your family and home, always be there for them, no matter what.
- Always pray and fast over your family and home and ask for your desires.
- Be subtle like the lady of Tekoa and bold like Deborah in the Bible.
- Be respectful and upright. This will encourage people to listen to your counsel. The woman of Tekoa was respectful in the presence of David, even though she was there to persuade him.
God- given powers should be used positively, this involves recognising what God has given us and putting them into good use.
