How to Engage in Spiritual Warfare.

Once we confess our faith as christians that we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, the enemy will wage war at us till Jesus comes back. But the Lord says in John 16:33 – “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

What is Spiritual Attack?

Wikipedia describes spiritual attack as the use of supernatural powers by Satan and his demons to harm the targeted christian physically or psychologically. Attacks from the enemy occur in many forms:

  1. Sickness
  2. Death
  3. Torment e.g. depression.
  4. Rebellion e.g. a child rebelling against the wishes of the parents.
  5. Marriage difficulties
  6. Financial difficulties and so on……..

Why do we experience Spiritual Attacks?

1 Thessalonians 3: 3-4 answers the question: so that no one would be unsettled by these trials. For you know quite well that we are destined for them. In fact, when we were with you, we kept telling you that we would be persecuted. And it turned out that way, as you well know.” (NIV)

Some Principles of Spiritual Warfare

One of the things we need to bear in mind as children of God is that we have been given the authority to command the enemy to leave us alone (Matthew 10:1). To use this authority, we need to be prayerful, have a strong relationship with Christ, be blameless, holy and pure. An example is to live at peace with everyone. Yes, it is hard but it is not impossible. If you are struggling with any issue, have a word with God and he will help in overcoming your struggles. Not letting go of struggles hinders breakthrough from happening. Unfortunately, that is why some people warfare over the same issue throughout the rest of their lives.

Spiritual attack is about the enemy waging war against Christians. Christians need to know that when dealing with the enemy, you will need to be ready for war. Spiritual warfare is not just about praying, it is about commanding the enemy to get out of your life and the situation he is attacking!

Some tools needed for spiritual warfare are fasting, prayer, speaking in tongues, faith, boldness and the Word of God.

How to warfare

  • Be determined in your heart that you are going to win. If you are not sure about executing the warfare alone, you can get your pastor or any other person of spiritual standing to join you. For example, family members, friends, mentor or someone God has sent to you.
  • Prepare with fasting and prayer.
  • Cover yourself, your family, and all your possessions with the blood of Jesus.
  • Set a fixed time you will warfare, especially if you are working. It could be early in the morning, during the day or in the middle of the night. Warfare at a time you will not encounter distractions. Make sure you take that time out to warfare.
  • The length of time you warfare for a particular breakthrough varies; ask God for guidance. Bear in mind that the enemy is an attention seeker, try not to spend the rest of your life warring over the same issue, telling the enemy to go away at all times can become an obsession and a source of distraction. Be careful.
  • While warring, try and be sensitive to the Holy Spirit. when you get the assurance that it is well, start thanking God. Thanking God is warfare as well.
  • The enemy will try so hard to make sure you do not take a stand, he might say God is fighting for us all the time. Yes he is, but God did not create lazy children, we are warriors and we have to take a stand when the enemy comes.
  • Do not pray to the enemy, you command him!
  • God is good and on many occasions during the warfare, he will give you his Word of assurance, stand on the Word he has given you, write it down, memorize it, believe in it and pray into it daily.

Be aware that there are no fast rules on how to warfare, this is just a guide. The most important thing is to be very sensitive to the Holy Spirit and be disciplined. It will be a sacrificial time for you i.e. sleepless nights, fasting, refraining from people, not talking too much etc. but just know that this is for a while and take heart. (1Peter 5:10)

God Bless You.

Well done Iya àfin Osuntoki, anointed woman of God. I am so glad that this subject was dropped on your heart to be studied and shared with the listening world at this point in our time. Calamities, plagues, sicknesses and diseases including covid-19 are all attacks on mankind by non other than Satan (devil/lucifer). Thank God for Jesus’ victory on the cross. I pray this message achieves all that God purposed even before it was dropped in your heart in the glorious name Jesus Christ. Amen!
